Clusters of Excellence

Clusters of Excellence are large-scale research projects in which scientists conduct interdisciplinary research on innovative topics across different institutions. With the Clusters of Excellence, the federal and state governments are funding internationally competitive research fields as part of the Excellence Strategy [link where applicable]. Freie Universit?t Berlin (FU), Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin (HU), Technische Universit?t Berlin (TU) and Charité - Universit?tsmedizin Berlin have joined forces in the Berlin University Alliance (BUA) to form the only university network currently funded as excellent in this context. There are also numerous co-operations with non-university institutions in the integrated Berlin research area.

In the current funding period (2019-2025), Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin has applied for Matters of Activity (MoA), a Cluster of Excellence that builds on the "Image Knowledge Gestaltung" Cluster approved in 2012. Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin is involved in three other successful clusters as a co-applicant: Science of Intelligence (SCIoI), a joint cluster of Technische Universit?t Berlin and Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin, MATH+, a consortium of Technische Universit?t Berlin, Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin and Freie Universit?t Berlin, and NeuroCure, a consortium of Charité - Universit?tsmedizin Berlin, Humboldt-Universit?t Berlin and Freie Universit?t Berlin.

In addition, researchers from Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin are also involved in the other three Berlin Clusters of Excellence, Contestations of the Liberal Script (SCRIPTS), Unifying Systems in Catalysis (UniSysCat) and Temporal Communities.
